The Law Enforcement Framework (LEF) was released in December 2010 and lays the foundation for the vision for policing in Alberta. It outlines the principles and strategic directions to improve law enforcement in Alberta. LEF has three main components: improved delivery of law enforcement; accountability to Albertans; and equitable distribution of policing costs.
The Alberta Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General has developed an action plan to implement the strategic directions over a three-year period. The following nine points form the strategic directions of LEF:

The role of the key stakeholder is consultative—working together to develop the key strategies proposed for LEF.
LEF was released in December 2010.
The initiative has been discussed for a number of years in relation to economics and fiscal responsibility for all communities. Alberta’s population continues to see growth, law enforcement becomes more complex, and the costs of policing continue to increase.
The financial cost of this initiative is ongoing.
LEF is an action plan that has not yet been implemented.
