Purpose : An intervention designed to help young offenders work toward adopting socially acceptable behaviours must be based on proven practices. A review of scientific literature has revealed few recent references on effective interventions with young offenders. Of these few, none pertained to Canadian or Quebec initiatives. This project will therefore help to provide better knowledge about a promising intervention to reduce delinquency among youth at risk. The main activities include individual meetings, family meetings, parental meetings, support for educational, social and labour market integration, activities to develop social skills, and parenting skills development workshops. The program provides clear guidelines on the role of partners (schools, community organizations) and guides workers in their collaboration with these partners. Developed with attention to consistency, all of the clinical activities in the program to be tested will ultimately and jointly target the same goal: to stop young from engaging in delinquent behaviour. Through the interaction of these activities, young people will be able to achieve the program's goal. The intervention strategy incorporates the positive contribution of the family system by using its strengths and improving its weaker points.
