Purpose : The mandate of SWOVA is to develop solutions to prevent violence and abuse against women and children through education, community development and research. The organization has recently completed a five year Crime Prevention Investment Fund (CPIF) project that developed a curriculum and accompanying workshops on developing healthy and respectful relationships for students in Grade 7, 8, 9, and 11 on Salt Spring Island. High school students were mentored and trained to become leaders in violence prevention. Approximately 500 students per year participated in workshops in the School District.
