Assault Style Firearms Compensation Program – Grants for Individuals

This funding will be used to support the completion of Phase 2 of the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP) for the collection and destruction of individually-owned assault-style firearms. Specifically, the funding would be used:

  • to undertake a comprehensive notification and communication campaign to inform licensed firearms owners;
  • sign agreements with implementation partners for collection, verification, transportation, validation, and destruction;
  • enlisting private sector service providers to supplement these efforts;
  • issue compensation to licensed firearms owners; and
  • operate a contact centre to provide client support.

Memorial Grant Program for First Responders In recognition of the critical role of first responders in protecting Canadians, the Memorial Grant Program for First Responders (MGP) provides a one-time lump sum with a tax-free maximum payment of $300,000 to the families of first responders who have died as a result of their duties. This includes deaths resulting from occupational illness or psychological impairment (e.g. suicide), while keeping Canadians safe. 21,600,000

  • Fully implement a web portal and case management system to support business participation in the program;
  • Launch a program to collect, validate and destroy business-owned firearms;
  • Issue compensation to businesses; and
  • Set up a contact centre to respond to queries.

Community Resilience Fund The Community Resilience Fund supports partnerships and innovation in countering radicalization to violence in Canada. It provides financial assistance (grants and contributions) to organizations to support research and programs to build the evidence base, as well as local capability and capacity, to counter radicalization to violence in Canada. 3,500,000
Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Program HUSAR is a specialized unit, with access to dedicated equipment, dedicated to ensure an effective response to disasters (natural and human induced) in urban areas (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, in Manitoba, as well as developing in Montreal and Halifax). Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy This initiative will support a renewed Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy. PS will pilot an overdose monitoring application for first responders in up to three Canadian jurisdictions. The application will provide near real-time suspected overdose surveillance data to support public safety and public health efforts in mobilizing a rapid response to a sudden increase or spike in overdose events. 300,000
Biology Casework Analysis Contribution Program The program provides financial contributions to the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, which have established independent forensic laboratories for the purpose of conducting biology casework analysis. Funding to enhance security around parliamentary campus This funding will be used to establish the new Parliamentary District Policing Program (PDPP) to reimburse the City of Ottawa for the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) to address security gaps within the Parliamentary District. Furthermore, the PDPP will enable the OPS to stand up a dedicated policing district, officers and support units within the Parliamentary District. This stable presence/posture within the Parliamentary District will facilitate real-time response to emerging safety and security situations unique to this geographic area of Ottawa. 10,000,000

  • Project Arachnid: Launched in 2017, Project Arachnid detects abuse material found online, allowing requests for removal to be sent to ISPs
  • Victim Identification and Support Strategy: Provides assistance to survivors and tailored resources for victims and their families
  • Provides public education and awareness on the issue of child sexual exploitation on the Internet
