Summary
Hurricane Mitch, in 1998, was the deadliest Atlantic hurricane since 1780. Hurricane Andrew, in 1992, was the most expensive natural disaster in U.S. history. How were they born, what made them so incredibly destructive? Featuring footage from Mitch, Andrew, and other hurricanes, this ABC News program seeks to answer those and other questions as scientists trace the growth of a tropical storm into a full-blown hurricane and Navy pilots fly up into a hurricane's eye. The program also documents the tragic story of the schooner Fantome, which tried to outrun Mitch and failed, losing all hands.
