MONTREAL – July, 22 2011 –  The Canadian public's tips and information have already led to the capture of one of the individuals suspected of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity. This update followsyesterday's announcement where the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, asked Canadians to help in identifying 30 individuals accused of being complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity, and who are thought to be hiding out in locations across Canada

“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to keep our streets and communities safe, and maintain the integrity of our immigration system.” said Minister Kenney. “We asked the public for assistance in apprehending these individuals and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The Government reports that the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Border Watch Line has tips pouring in, one of which has resulted in the apprehension of one of the individuals named on the web site.  Mr. Cristobal Gonzalez-Ramirez from Honduras is now in CBSA custody.

“Today's developments once again demonstrate that those who have been involved in war crimes or crimes against humanity will find no haven on our shores; they will be located, and they will face the consequences,” said Minister Toews.

The Ministers thank the public for their assistance and ask that they continue to look at the CBSA web site for updates.  Members of the public are reminded that they should not take action to apprehend the individuals listed on the website. Any information should be reported to the CBSA Border Watch Line at 1-888-502-9060 and continue to send in any tips as to the whereabouts of these wanted individuals.
