Overview: Disaster Risk Reduction Data Strategy
The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Data Strategy focuses on physical risks arising from all hazards, to improve emergency management outcomes for all Canadians.
Disaster Risk Reduction Data Strategy
Better data, stronger communities
Strong data systems support disaster planning, response, and long-term resilience. This results in improved emergency services and helps communities better prepare for and recover from disasters.
Data is readily available for real-time decision-making and situational reporting, such as with satellite data. However, there is a need to obtain data that is interoperable and shareable to inform longer-term decision making.
Government of Canada efforts should align with global best practices, like those in the Sendai Framework. This framework focuses on understanding risk, improving coordination, investing in resilience, and preparing for recovery.
