Ottawa, Ontario –December 4, 2013 – The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement today, after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the dismantling of an organized crime operation, which the RCMP has indicated is responsible for the large-scale production of cannabis. There were 8 related arrests and 14 searches following an investigation launched in May 2013 by the RCMP's Laurentides-Lanaudière-Outaouais Detachment.

"I commend the RCMP on their outstanding work leading to these arrests with the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec and various municipal law enforcement agencies.  Our government is committed to stemming the illicit production of drugs and combating organized crime, to ensure our communities are safe places for people to live, raise their families and do business."
