Although cross-border communication has always existed at all Canada-U.S. ports of entry, Binational Port Operations Committees formalize communications among all interested parties to jointly address operational issues that impact both sides of the border, and to facilitate communications during events.

External partners, including other federal agencies, state or provincial highway departments, bridge commissions, airport authorities, local fire and police departments and other stakeholders, are invited to attend when issues specific to their area are discussed.
