ARCHIVED - Government of Canada announces funding to protect communities targeted by hate crime in western Canada

The following eight community organizations are receiving support from Public Safety Canada’s Security Infrastructure Pilot (SIP) Program:

The Immigrant Centre Manitoba Inc. (Winnipeg) is dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of services and programs that support and facilitate the integration of immigrants to Winnipeg. The funding amount approved is $26,686.50.

The Manitoba Islamic Association - Waverley (Winnipeg) is an organization serving the religious, social and cultural needs of Muslims in Manitoba. The funding amount approved is $15,514.16.

The White Buffalo Youth Lodge (Saskatoon) is dedicated to improving the quality of life and health for children, youth, young adults, and their families in the Saskatoon area through integrated, holistic and supportive services. The funding amount approved is $4,345.

Akiva Academy (Calgary) is a Jewish day school committed to providing students with education in both Judaic and general studies. The funding amount approved is $5,168.42.

Chabad Alberta (Calgary) is dedicated to increasing the awareness, knowledge and observance of Judaism in Alberta through a range of spiritual, educational, cultural and social services. The funding amount approved is $17,879.

The Edmonton City Centre Church Corporation (E4C) (Edmonton) provides housing and support programs ranging from services to the homeless, a family success program, youth skills and development, and community connections for Aboriginals and visible minorities, including new Canadians, who have a history of being targeted by hate crimes. The funding amount approved is $15,849.50.

The Interior Indian Friendship Society (Kamloops) is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the Aboriginal community in Kamloops and the surrounding area through the delivery of culturally relevant programs and services. The funding amount approved is $6,727.57.

The Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture (Vancouver) is a community centre that provides educational, cultural and social programs as well as access to Jewish traditions, life cycle and holiday celebrations to people of all ages. The funding amount approved is $7,138.16.
