Home Fires Family Youth

Brief Description

The Home Fires Family Youth program encourages the personal growth and development of children and youth through individual and group activities. The activities provide children and youth the opportunity to develop life skills nurtured through a holistic and culturally sensitive approach. Parents and Caregivers are encouraged to participate and are given the opportunity to develop parenting and related life skills.

Goals

The main goals of the Home Fires Family Youth program are to:

• Provide a safe and non-threatening environment for children and youth,

• Help participants develop, identify, and build positive relationships,

• Build positive self-esteem in participants,

• Provide opportunities for youth to be involved in crime prevention programming.

Clientele

At risk Indigenous youth, children and their parents. Clients are referred to the program by other participants, other service agencies and various schools in the North Central Regina Community, including Circles of Life, Circle Project, Community Safety and Rehabilitative Services, Social Services and the Community police Services Centre.

The program components of the Home Fires Family Youth program include:

•       Youth drop in

•       Computer club

•       Literacy and Learning

•       Circle (attendance, smudging and life skills)

•       Sewing group

•       Cooking class

•       Sports (street hockey, baseball, basketball, and swimming

•       Craft night

•       Dance Troupe (Hip Hop and Traditional Pow Wow)

•       Drum Group

•       Movie, Game and Family nights

•       Family days

•       Family Breakfasts

•       Community Gardening
