Quadrennial Search and Rescue Review

On May 2, 2013, the Lead Minister for Search and Rescue, the Honourable Peter MacKay, announced several major initiatives to improve the national search and rescue (SAR) system. One key measure was the establishment of a Quadrennial SAR Review. The National SAR Secretariat has been tasked to lead the inaugural Quadrennial SAR Review.

Objective

The purpose of the Quadrennial SAR Review is to provide all SAR stakeholders with a comprehensive perspective of SAR in Canada, with a view to enhancing integration and alignment to provide a seamless system for Canadians.

Scope of the Review

Working with federal departments, including the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian Coast Guard, Parks Canada, Public Safety Canada and other departments, as well as with provincial/territorial governments and SAR volunteers, the review will systematically assess the evolving needs of SAR and how we can work together to ensure these needs are met.
