Ottawa, February 9, 2011 — The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, today announced eight appointments to the Parole Board of Canada.

“Our Government is committed to ensuring appointments to the Parole Board of Canada are based on merit and ability,” said Minister Toews. “As an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities, it is imperative that we appoint highly-qualified and committed people. I'm pleased to make today's announcement.”

Atlantic

William D. Aust of Riverview, New Brunswick, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Aust was a member of the New Brunswick Securities Commission and has worked as a senior manager with the Bank of Nova Scotia. He has been on the Board of Directors of various organizations, including the Greater Moncton Economic Commission.

Barbara-Ann Bourque of Dieppe, New Brunswick, is appointed as a part-time member. Ms. Bourque has over 30 years experience as a social worker with the New Brunswick Department of Justice, Family Division. She worked as a court counsellor for the Provincial Court and as a mediator for the Court of Queen's Bench.

Ontario

William Frederick Kerr Tufnell of Kingston, Ontario, is designated as the Vice-Chairperson of the Ontario region. He has been a full-time member since 2009. Mr. Tufnell joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1968 where he served for five years. Between 1974 and 1988, he was a Sergeant with the York Regional Police Force. In 1989, Mr. Tufnell became the founding President of several companies specializing in detection, investigative services and surveillance.

Goldie M. Shea Green of Ottawa, Ontario, is appointed as a full-time member. Ms. Green is a lawyer and worked as a Senior Trade Policy Officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. She was responsible for copyright, domestic and international intellectual property rights enforcement in the context of the Security and Prosperity Partnership and NAFTA initiatives. Ms. Green also previously worked as a Legal Counsel with Justice Canada, and as a policy analyst with various organizations.

Thomas J. Kaye of Owen Sound, Ontario, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Kaye began his policing career in December 1976 with the Metropolitan Toronto Police. He has since served with the Shelburne Police Service and the Cobourg Police Service before being appointed to the position of Deputy Chief of Police for the Smiths Falls Police Service. In 1995 he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Owen Sound Police Service and promoted to Chief of Police in 1998.

Damian J. Parrent of Niagara Falls, Ontario, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Parrent served 34 years with the Niagara Regional Police Service, retiring in 2008 with the rank of Superintendent after occupying a number of positions with the Service. He is a former Chair of the OACP Alcohol and Gaming Committee and a member of the Ontario Region of the National Joint Committee of Senior Criminal Justice Officials.

Prairies

Gerald Gunn of St. Albert, Alberta, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Gunn was the Acting Executive Director/Chief Sheriff within the Solicitor General and Public Safety Department, Government of Alberta. From 1980 to 2008, he worked with the Edmonton Police Service, where he occupied a number of positions, including Staff Sergeant and Inspector.

Frederick N. Wesolowski of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Wesolowski was a police officer for 20 years for the Corman Park Police Service in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Prior to occupying this position, he was a firefighter for Transport Canada.
