Potential exploit vector in vBulletin

The purpose of this alert is to raise awareness of a report that vBulletin is being actively exploited.


vBulletin is reporting a potential exploit vector affecting vBulletin 4.1+ and 5+ installation directories. The “/install” and “/core/install” directories contains a security weakness that attackers can leverage to discover the flaw perhaps enabling them to create administrative accounts and possibly tamper with other administrative accounts, install malware or modify content on the website.

Suggested action

CCIRC recommends that organisations who use this product identify their affected assets and follow the suggested mitigation advice from the vendor site.
