Since the NSS provides SAR NIF funding based upon available financial resources, it is important to note that not all of the projects identified on a Merit List will necessarily be funded.

A 3-year Strategic Plan to Increase Interoperability, Technical & Training Capacities of GSAR on PEI Prince Edward Island To develop and implement a structured training program, to acquire communications and technology equipment and to hold a multi-jurisdictional search in order to increase the skill level, technical knowledge and response capability of GSAR Volunteers in PEI. Nova Scotia Ground SAR Standardized Radio Communications System Nova Scotia To upgrade and standardize the radio system for 24 volunteer ground search and rescue teams across Nova Scotia. Response 3 $ 1,281,617.00
Beyond Boot Camp…the 3 R's Royal Canadian Mounted Police To complete what will be a total cold water educational package building on the success of Cold Water Boot Camp. It is a 2 part video based educational program delivered on DVD with certain elements available through the internet. The primary target groups are educators and first responders. Prevention 1 $ 337,700.00
Development of SAR Manitoba (S.A.R.M.A.N.) Volunteer Association – A Provincial Partnership Manitoba To develop a formal provincial volunteer association to strengthen the network, promote standardization of training and response guidelines, and ultimately to provide a legitimate voice for the volunteer GSAR network in the Province of Manitoba. Response 3 $ 388,817.00
Training and Development of the SAR Volunteer Community in Québec Québec To maintain and develop the competencies of the members of the SAR volunteer community in order to increase their effectiveness and that of their respective teams. Response 2 $ 455,160.00
Rip Current Educational Video – PEI National Park Parks Canada Agency To develop a five minute rip current educational video that will address a broad target audience and that will focus on how to identify rip currents and visually demonstrate how to escape from them safely. Prevention 1 $ 25,970.00
Nunavik SAR Initiatives Fund Department of Fisheries and Oceans To train 84 Inuit from 14 different communities in Nunavik in marine rescue procedures and to educate the communities and organizations on the assessment of risks and the importance of acquiring and using knowledge, skills and equipment required to minimize injury and/or loss of life. Response 3 $ 513,205.00
MEOSAR – Phase 2 Department of National Defence To develop new and innovative spectral analysis tools; support the development of next-generation SAR beacon technologies; support investigations into the location-processing accuracy and how to improve it; and to keep supporting the prototype MEOLUT with software and hardware updates. Keeping Watch: Boating Safely in Canada's Busy Waterways Transport Canada To produce a 10 minute bilingual documentary. The purpose is to raise the awareness of recreational boaters across Canada as to the risks associated with navigating in proximity of commercial vessels. Prevention 2 $ 28,750.00
Search and Rescue Learning System Department of Fisheries and Oceans To design and execute an online training system for the volunteers of all the regions of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary across Canada. Response 2 $ 335,236.00
CCGA Training Equipment Department of Fisheries and Oceans To acquire and distribute equipment to allow local training programs to be delivered to volunteers in each community. It will support the CCGA training effort, specifically in the areas of victim recovery and first aid treatment, including the use of defibrillators and CPR techniques. Response 2 $ 552,000.00
