Government Task Force on Illicit Tobacco Products

On May 7, 2008, the Government of Canada launched the RCMP Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Strategy and announced the creation of a new government Task Force led by Public Safety Canada. For additional information, please refer to the news release.

The mandate of the Task Force is to provide the Minister of Public Safety with proposed concrete measures, including policies, programs, regulatory and/or legislative options, that will help disrupt and reduce the trade in contraband tobacco.
