Canada-U.S. border security
Public Safety Canada works with the Attorney General of the United States to develop policies, strategies and initiatives to address cross-border crime. Our two departments have built a bilateral consultative mechanism to address issues such as smuggling, marketing fraud, identity theft, human trafficking, money laundering, child abduction, high-tech crime and terrorism.
Public Safety Canada also takes a policy leadership role in Canada creating a unified approach to cross-border crime that spans law enforcement agencies and federal departments. We also bring Canadian agencies and departments into closer working relationships with their American counterparts to address cross-border crime. A common goal of Public Safety Canada and the Attorney General is to facilitate information and technology-sharing among the law enforcement agencies.
