Microsoft Out-of-Band Security Bulletin January 2013

Purpose

The purpose of this advisory is to bring attention to a critical out-of-band Microsoft Security Bulletin which addresses critical vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Assessment

Microsoft has released the following security bulletin :

MS13-008: Security Update for Internet Explorer (2799329)
Details: The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Internet Explorer. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the current user.
The security update addresses the vulnerability by modifying the way that Internet Explorer handles objects in memory.
Maximum Security Impact: Remote Code Execution

Suggested action

CCIRC recommends that system administrators test and deploy the vendor-released updates to affected applications accordingly.
