Corrections FAST FACTS

Most offenders in Canadian penitentiaries are serving a sentence of fixed length – eventually returning to the community. Successful reintegration of an offender into society requires community acceptance and support.

Public Safety Canada, in cooperation with its partners, has developed the Corrections Fast Facts series to help Canadians draw informed conclusions about how Canada's correctional system operates.

The Corrections Fast Facts series covers a wide range of correctional issues, including:

  1. A Day in the Life of an Inmate
  2. Drugs in Prison
  3. Giving Back to the Community
  4. Federal Sentences
  5. Programs and Treatments that Work
  6. Treatment for Sex Offenders
  7. People Who Work with Offenders
  8. Victims of Crime in Federal Corrections and Conditional Release
  9. Women Offenders
  10. Restorative Justice
