Public Safety Minister Toews and Citizenship and Immigration Minister Kenney commend the Canada Border Services Agency for the removal of Achuil Lual

Ottawa, October 5, 2010 - Today the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, and the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, congratulated the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) following the removal of Achuil Lual from Canada.

"I commend the CBSA for successfully removing this serious offender from our country." said the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety. "The removal of inadmissible individuals maintains the integrity of the immigration program, and helps to ensure fairness for those who live in this country lawfully. We do not tolerate individuals who come to this country and commit violent crimes.”

Since arriving in Canada in 1994, Lual has been convicted of multiple crimes: uttering threats, robbery; assault, obstruction of a peace officer, and resisting arrest. In June 2008, Lual was declared a danger to the public under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).

Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney added: “I commend Citizenship and Immigration Canada and CBSA officials whose diligent work resulted in the removal of Achuil Lual from Canada. Though the law gives individuals like Lual multiple avenues of appeal before they are  removed, the government’s position when before the courts is and will remain to consistently advocate for the safety and security of the Canadian public. The removal of violent foreign  offenders is key to maintaining the integrity of Canada’s immigration system and protecting Canadians."
