Statement from Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan on the death of Ottawa Police Constable Ireneusz (Eric) Czapnik

December 29, 2009 — “Our sympathies go out to the family of Ireneusz (Eric) Czapnik, the Ottawa Police Service officer killed today. This event is tragic and impossible to comprehend.

We were also saddened and disappointed to learn the individual arrested in Constable Czapnik's murder is a suspended member of the RCMP.

The RCMP is offering assistance to the Ottawa Police Service in their investigation of this event.”
