Minister Day applauds the Immigration Taskforce following the arrest of Giuseppe Collucio
August 7, 2008 — The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today in response to news that the Immigration Taskforce arrested Mr. Giuseppe Coluccio in Markham, Ontario. Mr. Coluccio was wanted on a Canada-Wide Immigration Warrant for an Admissibility Hearing under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and by Italian authorities for drug related offences.
"I'd like to commend the Immigration Taskforce for its investigative efforts. This arrest protects the integrity of our immigration program and reinforces the security of Canada. Canada is not a safe haven for individuals who gained admission to Canada by hiding the fact that they are wanted by a foreign authority in relation to a criminal offence”.
The investigation was conducted by the Immigration Taskforce, which is composed of members from the Canada Border Services Agency, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Provincial ROPE members from the Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto Police Service.
