Minister Day announces two new appointments to the National Parole Board

OTTAWA, August 6, 2008 — The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced one part-time and one full-time appointment to the National Parole Board.

In the Quebec region, Renaud Dutil of St-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Dutil previously served as a part-time member of the Board from 1986 to 2003. He holds a law degree and a Master’s degree of Education in Law from the University of Laval, and has experience as a trial lawyer in private practice.

In the Atlantic region, Llewellyn Robinson of Winsloe, Prince Edward Island, is appointed as a full-time member. Mr. Robinson has been a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police since 1968, where he has held various senior level positions including Operations Commander, Queen’s County, PEI, from 2002-2006, and District Commander, Prince County, PEI, from 1998-2002. Since 2006, he has held the position of Auditor, Atlantic Region Review Services.

“I am pleased to announce these appointments, which reflect the federal government's commitment to ensuring appointments to the National Parole Board are based on merit and ability,” said Minister Day. “The National Parole Board is an independent decision-making tribunal that plays a significant role in contributing to the safety of our communities, making it imperative that we appoint highly qualified and committed people,” he added.
