Minister Day announces Canada's participation in international cyber security exercise

OTTAWA, March 10, 2008 — The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, announced today that Canada will participate in an international cyber security exercise named Cyber Storm II. The exercise will take place in March 2008, and involve participants from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

"Exercises are important tools for strengthening our ability to deal with incidents, including threats to cyber security," said Minister Day. "Canada's participation in this exercise is an example of our government's ongoing commitment to working with our international partners to protect critical infrastructure."

Public Safety Canada is leading Canada's participation in the Cyber Storm II exercise in keeping with the department's responsibility for emergency management and national security. Working internationally and exercising across jurisdictions strengthens Canada's ability to deal with actual emergencies.

Canada participated in Cyber Storm I in 2006, along with Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, in a simulated cyber attack on the communications, energy and transportation sectors.
