Minister Day comments on RCMP arrest
OTTAWA , September 13, 2007 – Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released this statement in the arrest by the RCMP of Said Namouh, on September 12, 2007 in Maskinongé, Québec. This individual has been charged with conspiracy to build, deliver and detonate a bomb outside of Canada.
" I am aware that an individual has been charged with conspiracy to build, deliver and detonate a bomb outside of Canada. There is no indication that there was a threat to the security of Canada and Canadians.
As the police complete their investigation, we will know more about the reasons behind this arrest.
I would like to commend the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, led by the RCMP, for their work with Austrian authorities and other international partners in making this arrest.
This work, on both sides of the Atlantic, demonstrates, once again, the extent to which we cooperate with our international partners in fighting crime and keeping our communities safe."
