Final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the investigation of the bombing of Air India flight tabled
On June 17, the Government of Canada tabled the Air India Flight 182: A Canadian Tragedy, the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182. In September 2006, the Government of Canada commissioned retired Justice Major to scrutinize the Investigation of the Bombing of Air India Flight 182. In December 2007, the Government released its first report “The Families Remember,” which gave a voice to the loved ones of the victims of Flight 182, those who assisted them and others directly affected. The final report, tabled yesterday, is an examination of Canadian national security systems, policies and actions related to the tragedy. It contains both findings and recommendations for the Government of Canada.

Heavy rains in southern Alberta cause flooding and state of emergency
On June 17, media reported that southern Alberta received up to 100 millimetres of rain since June 16, and more is forecast for June 18. The recent rain has created high groundwater and high flows in Lee Creek, which are taxing storm sewers. Residents have been sandbagging to protect businesses; however, no evacuations have been necessary so far. On June 17, Alberta Environment indicated that a Flood Watch has been issued for Lee Creek, St. Mary River downstream of the St. Mary Reservoir and Waterton River downstream of the Waterton; a High Streamflow Advisory has been issued for Milk River, Pincher Creek, St. Mary and Waterton Rivers upstream of the St. Mary and Waterton Reservoirs, Belly River and the Oldman River downstream of the Oldman Dam; and that a High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for all the tributaries flowing out of the Cypress Hills. On June 18, Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for several areas in southern Alberta.

On June 17, CBC reported that the Blood Tribe reserve declared a state of emergency. About 40 families are stranded and emergency crews are working to bring in food and water. Some highways and roads on the reserve have been closed.
