CCIRC releases alert AL10-002: Critical security Update for Flash Player
On June 11, Public Safety Canada's Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre (CCIRC) released alert AL10-002 to to bring attention to an out of schedule critical security update for Flash Player. A critical vulnerability exists in Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris operating systems, and the authplay.dll component that ships with Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems. This vulnerability CVE-2010-1297) could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. This vulnerability is being actively exploited on the internet against both Adobe Flash Player, and Adobe Reader and Acrobat. This security update addresses the vulnerability in Flash Player only. Updates for Adobe Reader and Acrobat will be released by 29 June 2010. CCIRC recommends that administrators test and deploy this update at the earliest opportunity.

B.C. mudslide closes highway
Media reported that all residents of Testalinden Creek, near Oliver in southern B.C., have been accounted for, with no deaths or injuries, after a mudslide occurred on June 13. The slide hit and blocked Highway 97, the main highway through the Okanagan, at Road 14. About 50 people were evacuated from the area. The slide left a wall of mud about 3.5 metres high over the stretch of highway. The RCMP indicated that Oliver and Osoyoos RCMP, along with the Oliver Volunteer Fire Department, were the first responders. The landslide came from the western hillside and wiped out several homes and structures continuing over Hwy 97 and into nearby Testindla Creek; however, it is predominantly orchard agricultural area. Approximately five homes were affected. The Ministry of Environment was involved and assisting is assessing the situation and cause of the slide.

CFIA issues two Health Hazard Alerts for certain products due to possible Listeria
On June 11, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a Health Hazard Alert warning the public not to serve or consume certain Richland Valley and Take Away Café brand sandwiches because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. These products, prepared for Core-Mark International and Mac's Convenience Stores Inc., were distributed in Alberta and British Columbia. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The manufacturer, Lucerne Foods Ltd., Calgary, AB is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Also on June 11, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a Health Hazard Alert warning the public not to serve or consume certain ready-to-eat cooked meats from Establishment 294 because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected products have been distributed in retail and deli stores in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. If the original product identity and Best Before code is not evident, consumers are advised to check with their retailer to determine if the product is included in the list of recalled products. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The manufacturer, Smith's Quality Meats, Winnipeg, Manitoba, is voluntarily recalling all ready-to-eat cooked meats from the marketplace as a precautionary measure. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall, and the investigation is continuing.
