Quebec forest fires force evacuations: Update
To update from Public Safety Canada Daily Infrastructure Report DIR10-105, on June 2-3, media reported that according to SOPFEU, Quebec’s forest fire prevention agency, there are no longer any fires out of control in the province. Rainfall on June 1-2 helped firefighters put out some of the nearly 60 fires that were burning a few days earlier, bringing the number down to 29 by the afternoon of June 2. However, approximately 1,300 from the Wemotaci reserve are still waiting for permission to return home. On June 3, a committee of experts will be on site from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, the Council of the Nation Atikamekw and Band Council to assess the quality of air and drinking water. On June 3, Environment Canada indicated that the smog warning for La Tuque ended.

New NERC report identifies threat environment and next steps for addressing key high-impact, low-frequency risks to the North American electric grid
On June 2, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the U.S. Department of Energy released a report that identifies a certain class of high-impact, low-frequency risk shown to have the potential to significantly affect the reliability of the North American bulk power system. The report examines three high-impact, low-frequency risks in detail: coordinated cyber, physical, or blended attacks; pandemic illness; and Geomagnetic Disturbances and Electromagnetic Pulse events. These risks are rare, and in some cases have never occurred. Certain protections and mitigations are already in place to address these risks, and this study will help the electric sector, public utility commissions, and the federal government to further prepare for these potential risks.
