CBRNE training at the Canadian Emergency Management College in Ottawa
Public Safety Canada announced that on May 13, first responders will take part in simulation activities at the Canadian Emergency Management College in Ottawa, as part of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosives (CBRNE) course. Participants will be wearing personal protective equipment including biohazard suits and respiratory protection to practice the response skills needed to intervene in a CBRNE incident. There is no risk to the environment, the community or the public. This intermediate-level training course is designed to standardize the level of preparedness for response to CBRNE incidents, and to build skills among specialized responders such as HazMat technicians, emergency medical services personnel, forensic identification specialists and bomb technicians.

VIA service between Toronto and Ottawa affected by freight train derailment
VIA Rail Canada (VIA) advised that on May 12, all of its trains between Toronto and Ottawa were affected by a CP freight train derailment near Smith Falls, Ontario. VIA arranged bus transportation for passengers of all affected trains. Average delays of two to three hours were expected. The line was expected to be reopened by the morning of May 13.

New developments in cyber attacks against financial institutions  
On May 11, Threatpost provided an analysis about recent developments in attacks launched by malicious programs against clients of financial institutions.
